MassHOPE NEWS

Homeschool Convention:

MassHOPE's 23rd annual Christian Homeschool Convention will be held on April 27 & 28, 2012 at the DCU Center in Worcester, Mass. Plans are rapidly coming together for another great convention with inspiring speakers, informative workshops, Children's Program, Teen Track, a huge exhibit hall, and loads of inspiration, practical information, and fellowship with homeschoolers from throughout New England. Make plans to be there. You'll be glad you did.

Used Curriculum Sale:

Plans for the 2012 Used Curriculum Sale are in the formative stages. It's one of the highlights of our year as hundreds of homeschoolers seek out bargains for the next school year. As in every year thousand of items, including loads of free ones, will find new homes. The date will be announced here soon.

High School Graduation:

High School Field Trip

On Friday April 8, forty three homeschoolers met for a fun day in New York City. We've seen lots of interesting things on previous NYC trips and had some fun while learning a few things along the way. We met in Sturbridge again, carpooled to New Haven, and took the train to Grand Central in Manhattan. The Sony Wonder Technology Lab was our first objective after lunch. After a walk through beautiful Central Park, we visited the awesome American Museum of Natural History. We caught the 8:04 train home from Grand Central. Stay tuned for any future trips.

CRITICAL ISSUES

Parental Rights:

This is an issue of great importance to homeschoolers everywhere.  Parental rights are increasingly threatened as more members of our judiciary begin to take cues from international law and custom.  These are decidedly unfriendly to homeschooling. For more information and to join the battle to preserve parental rights, please visit  www.parentalrights.org.

Charter Schools:

MassHOPE opposes any federal or state funding initiatives to support charter schools or other types of “public school at home” programs.  Such programs undermine total educational freedom of parents. For further information on this subject, we suggest the DVD "The Trojan Horse" which explains these programs from our perspective. The DVD is available for $7 from MassHOPE. Order by mail from MassHOPE, 46 South Road, Holden, MA 01520 or call us at 508-829-0973.
